Alestra deploys Mexico's first Multi-host mobile operator

JSC Ingenium - Gartner 2030 AI Era: Roadmap for CSPs

The corporate and government sectors demand connectivity without blind spots. For mission-critical services, network availability is non-negotiable. However, Mexico's vast geography of 1,943 million km 2 , presents a physical limit: no single Mobile Network Operator (MNO) can guarantee quality coverage across the entire country.

The Challenge: Overcoming network fragmentation

Alestra, Axtel's ICT services business unit, took the strategic step to become a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Its reference radio network, Altán, provided substantial coverage but was not enough to guarantee the fully national footprint required by the market. To offer guaranteed communications to its business and government clients, Alestra needed to deploy a resilient multi-host solution.

The Solution: JSC Ingenium's Multi-host Architecture

The operator closed agreements with three major mobile network operators: Telcel, AT&T, and Altán. The multi-host infrastructure developed by JSC Ingenium provides the capability to:

\

Dynamic routing and validation: The system recognizes the subscriber's location and evaluates coverage requests to grant or deny access instantly.

\

QoS and charging management: Real-time control over service quality and the ability to apply tailored tariffs based on specific coverage profiles.

\

Operational tracking: The infrastructure remembers geographical and interconnection data to route subsequent services correctly across footprints, managing IMSI ranges without user friction.

Impact and Scope

Alestra now provides a coverage footprint of approximately 90% of the Mexican territory. This multi-host deployment has enabled advanced integrations such as the Airbus MXLINK project, a secure MVNO for public security and defense, featuring Tetrapol interoperability and end-to-end voice and data security.

Future-ready: Paving the way for Hyperelastic Networks

Solving current network fragmentation is just the operational foundation. The deployed Multi-host architecture is built on a framework that facilitates a seamless evolution toward Cloud-Native environments and 5G deployments. This structural flexibility allows for dynamic scaling of processing capacity and latency management, laying the technological
groundwork for Hyperelastic Networks: infrastructures capable of balancing multiple MNOs through artificial intelligence to secure the critical performance of tomorrow's IoT ecosystems.
